The Walking Dead Season Finale

The short 6-episode came to an explosive end on Sunday, with the intrepid heroes driving off to an uncertain future.

Remember my prediction about the grenade back in my episode 2 write up? I'm glad the writers remembered it too! I knew that thing would come in handy...grenades always do!

Overall, the Walking Dead continues to impress. It's not just mindless zombie mayhem, but an intense, dramatic, character-driven show. The Walking Dead excels at bringing up the horrible human situations that a zombie-geddon would cause. This finale was no different, bringing up the allure of suicide to escape from an uncertain and most likely horrible fate. The tough, human questions that go beyond the usual zombie fare. It's good stuff. Though honestly, all of the intensity gets a bit much at times. A "breather" from the imminent doom and gloom would be nice, but I don't think that's in store.

The producers also continue to show that they aren't afraid of killing off characters. The comic book is renowned for its brutality to the survivors/heroes, so there's no surprise there. The TV show has been a bit kinder to the cast, a trend that I hope continues in subsequent seasons.

Next season is a ways off....like almost a year from what I read last...so we have these six episodes to tide us over. The show's success is a good thing for zombie fans in general - it gives execs evidence that there's a market for intelligent zombie/survival fare. Expect to see more of that in the future.

What did you guys think of the finale and the season in general? Any favorite moments, lines or characters?
