The Battle Pickup

Recommended read on the many virtues of pickups/technicals and their history in modern warfare.

Quote:

Pickup trucks are ideal for the wars of the twenty-first century: they’re readily available, cheap, fuel efficient, easy to operate and repair. And, they are more modular than the Littoral Combat Ship. They can operate off-road in the bush or in the downtown of a major metropolis. All of these characteristics make the pickup truck a war-winner for non-state or weak-state forces that can’t get their hands on purpose-built military vehicles, can’t afford extensive logistic chains, and need to quickly move through and between rough terrain and urban environments.

  1. Recoil did an article on the "War Wagon," which was a dressed to the nines Toyota Tundra topped off with an M2HB . Wouldn't mind having one to roll out with when SHTF.

  2. Also attractive from a TEOTWAWKI perspective. You can get a pickup now without raising eyebrows--tanks and helicopters not so much. A pickup also provides good "camouflage." When its not in combat it looks like any other pickup and can hide in plain sight.

  3. i think they would be useful for local area defense but i doubt they would survive long against drone armed forces. then again that's not their likely use. i have a belt-fed that i plan on mounting in the bed of my truck with sandbags all around for a fast reaction vehicle. my ao is spread out and it will make defense more viable.

    1. Nothing survives long against surface to air missiles or a laser guided bomb. At that point, unless you have anti-air capability, your only hope is to run, hide and fight another day...

    2. When the missile on the drone rail costs more than the truck, you're still winning

    4. You do what the British SAS did in German-occupied North Africa during WWII: You attack the airfields with technicals and destroy the planes while they are grounded. Even drones have to take-off and land somewhere. They can't stay in the air forever.
