Moving...

Moving cross country this week and the next and will have intermittent access to ye olde Internet during that time. Probably only a few posts this week, and expect a delay for e-mail responses. Wanted to pass along a heads up. Wish us luck--we've got an over 2,000 mile drive ahead of us later this week!

The means your are choosing a new home?

I, for one, would love to read a few posts about a prepper choosing a new home to live in.

The options. The decisions made. The compromises. And a few weeks or months in, how the reality measures up to the theory; what went right and what isn't working out so well. And what work, DIY, and other projects you are planning to further improve your new home from a prepping perspective.

I would find this massively useful and interesting as my other half and I are yet to purchase our first home but plan to soon.

Very best of luck with your big move! Great blog, BTW!

    1. For this job, I will potentially moving two additional times in the next two years, and we need to live within about 20-30 minutes of the area I'll be working in. So we're renting, which leads to more compromises than buying. We found a nice house in the suburbs with a good sized yard, veggie garden, real fireplace. Non-corner lot, quiet street, with a creek within a couple hundred yards of the house. Not too many windows, all the bedrooms on the same floor.

It's not an ideal survival home, but it's pretty decent.

I had a series of posts a while back on securing your home - here's the first, on what to look for in a home.
