  1. I think the bar scene was critical. Hershel now has his eyes open to what defenses are really needed, both from the walkers, and outsiders prowlin for resources.

    1. The bar scene was excellent! Most suspenseful thing I've seen in a long while. Rick's fast draw Python for the win. Great, great scene.

  2. I hate that they never follow the buddy system! :-) This knuckleheads keep going off on their own!

  3. Same here, bar scene was important showing how the despirate or criminal will act, only I thought Rick waited way to long to react to the obvious threat...guys were asking to many questions about shelter, supplies and location...could have turned out bad for them if the bad guys hadnt been beating around the bush so much. One other thing has bothered me along the whole series, NOISE DISCIPLINE!!!! No one on the show seems to have any or know what it means. It should be obvious to everyone by now that the walkers are attracted to noise, yet everyone continues to yell, argue and make all kinds of noise even when away from base camp and in a "hostile" area. You would think in a worst case scenario such as theirs, where attention=death, you'd want to draw as little attention to yourself as possible. Oh yeah and knowing everything the we viewer's know about Shane at this point, I think I would have already "eliminated" him from the group/equation...anyone else?

    1. My wife pointed that out during the scene where Shane heard some rustling in the bushes...they just massacred a dozen or so zombies, you'd expect every walker within ear shot to come stumbling on over.

As for the baddies, I'd a blown them away before then, too - would have hoped for Glenn to use his IN-HAND shotgun to help. But, Rick waited for them to make the first move - the "good guy" thing to do. Almost straight out of a Western, right there...

    2. Shane may be a hothead, but when the chips are down, he can be on my team!!

  4. In the bar scene I would have never let one of them get behind me. I would have told them to stay where I can see them The Japanese kid was of no use.

    Now how is the wife?

    1. If you notice there was a mirror behind the bar. Rick could see both bad guys, total cowboy/western set up there. I agree Rick should have started shooting earlier. Those two were casing them big time.

  5. I think he's Korean... and I think in reality, many people would freeze like he did and be absolutely useless. They're used to shooting zombies who don't shoot back... he doesn't really have any experience shooting people intent on shooting him! Not in the close quarters environment like that anyway.

  6. I thought the show was pretty awesome and I had bad vibes from the 'newcomers' right off the bat. I thought this was going to go into a 'hostage' situation, but the producers chose the expedited route. I'll bet Shane would have likely did the same, only made his mind up faster.

Then again, maybe he would have already behind the bar helping himself to free liquor. ?

  7. it's great that Hershel has finally seen the light. Now he and Rick can join forces and resources. Shane is going to be a problem. He's a warrior, but too much of a hot-head. Warriors have a purpose. They lead armies, but not societies.

What Shane did was right...it was his method.

  8. Bah Glenn froze in bar even tho he had perfect shot at fat guy. but at least Rick got Fast Draw Perk rank 1 ;D
btw this 2 raiders where just scouts from main party, i think we can expect to see 15-20 guys coming to see on farm if they got some iPhones or soming in that jacket ;P and thats when Shane gona be handy and someone will end up dead, maby Glenn or Sophias mom. Baad time to be supporting character in series.

    1. I would certainly be worried about their "friends" -- going to be plenty of bad guys. I'm going to guess that troubles with this group will force the group off of Hershel's farm and back onto the road.

  9. The development of Rick's character into the ultimate "sheriff" is the most interesting(assess the situation and act)...even his wife is somewhat stumped by the man he has become. I haven't read the comics, so wondering how these episodes are stacking up to the original story. I think Hershal will be glad to see Rick stay at the farm, since it appears that strangers are sure to start showing up.

  10. Rick continues to show why he is the leader. Instead of taking the newbies in or shooting them after the second no, he tries all avenues before he is forced to kill. In a TEOTWAWKI situation, negotiating and exhausting all non-lethal methods before employing deadly force is very wise. Rick is smart because he surveys the landscape, weighs his options, forms a plan and uses deadly force only when necessary and so far only to save his own life.

I think you also got a clear idea of what type of people the newbies are. The fat guy is pissing on the floor a couple of feet away from everyone and his buddy says nothing about it. Neither appears to have any concept or concern for health or hygiene issues. If the fat guy is willing to piss where he drinks in front of everyone, he is probably not going to add much if anything to Rick’s group. Since his friend says nothing about what is a rather crass act, one can conclude that he is either unconcerned or unaware of the message his friend is sending. As these two represent their group, it is a good insight into the group and what type of people make up the group (remember birds of a feather.) More likely than not undisciplined and non-forward thinking people will only cause problems. The fact that they are so willing to hook up with people they don’t know also has to make you think. Why is it Rick says we don’t know you (meaning we cannot trust you) while the other group is willing to jump in bed with Rick’s group after just one drink. This is a sign of where the newbie group is at.

Peers or similarly situated groups are likely to look at any merger or mutual cooperation with the same level of skepticism, mistrust, caution and concern. Both groups would vet the other and engage in a fairly drawn out “courtship” or due diligence process to ensure that they are choosing an equal that shares similar beliefs, values, goals, supplies and resources. The willingness to join forces by the newbies makes me think they have no real resources or bring anything of benefit (e.g., weapons, skilled people, ammunition, food, water) to the situation. If this is the case, they would then likely be looking for a way to secure their own safety and survival at the cost of Rick’s group (e.g., steal, kill, etc.).

I think this was a pivotal moment in the story and we may see stragglers from the group of newbies come looking for payback.

  12. I didn't like the bar scene, which simply was reinforcing the 'Super Rick' side of the show. Glenn was there with a shot gun and still saw no action ? Come on, It was lame for that. You would expect Glenn to pull the trigger, especially since his GF begged him to come back alive.

They waited too long, I think Shane would have droped them earlier.

Lets be honest, Rick was dead on the Bar scene, the writers are the only thing keeping him alive.

    1. So you don't think a man who is in law enforcement could get the drop on those two yahoos??? Granted he never should have let one of those guys get his back but to me it seems that someone who's trained, against two guys who are not wins almost evertime. Im sure Rick was already formulating a plan as soon as those guys walked in, now those plans don't always go like we would like but once he new it was time to jump into action he knew exactly what he was going to do where as the other two fellas had to try and react to what was going on and subsequently wound up DEAD! That's why training and always having a plan is so important.

    2. I think that Rick was an idiot not only because He ought to know better has a Law man, but also because the stacks are so high : No possibility of back up, scarce medical supplies, and protecting Hershel. Against all of it, the ''Mr Cowboy drop 2 guys'' is completely stupid.

If I can quote George Bush, He misunderstimated the enemy : You don't know if the Yahoos are alone, nor do you know if they are trained themselves. Counting on your adversary being a noob is a poor excuse to for getting killed.

Glenn should have been on the look out, Rick should had not put himself between the two yahoos, and for Heaven sake's Glenn should had used the shotgun to at least intimidate them once they entered the bar.

In reality land what would had happened would have been for Rick to Get shot, and Glenn + Hershel fighting off unkowm number of hostile and thousands of walker ... or Dead.

    3. First, I agree absolutely agree Rick was an idiot.

Second, At this point of the zombie apocalypse there are no noobs. Survival of the fittest has weeded those people out long ago. There is a world of difference mentally between putting down a walker and killing a human being (even a bad guy). Glen is not a school trained shooter. Rick has the training and the experience of shooting humans (at minimum in episode 1).

  13. You have gotta be cool . The bar scene was a perfect example of waiting. Rick was perfect. If you would have shot them earlier then you won't survive very long in SHTF. You have to wait till the perfect moment if you want to keep your sanity. Shoot to soon and you conscience will eat you alive !

  14. How did those guys get in the door without anyone seeing them?? Glenn should have been at teh window or outside on the lookout for walkers!!! Not inside waiting to get trapped by whatever. And yes why the hell did he not have his shotgun laying down adn pointed at the fat guy. You noticed that the other guy put his gun on the bar but it was pointed at Rick, if you not planning on shooting someone you point your gun away from them. And HELL yes I would never have let one of them get to my back, but I guess you have to have some kind of macho bullshit for tv.. Wonder if the one handed redneck brother(forgot his name) is going to turn up as the leader of this new group of shitbags..

    1. My foresight is along the same line as yours. I believe we’ll see Merle Dixon turn back up with the other group. That is my feeling anyway: the idea came to me as soon as they two guys entered and said they were with a group. If that is the case, how it plays out with Daryl will be interesting.
The bar scene did change the dynamic about and will start to make the story a bit more interesting while on the farm. A complete focus on Walkers would have expunged their use of the farm. They would have needed to move on to keep the story rolling. Now they will have to deal with Walkers and this new group of hostiles (safe to say it will be a hostile group after Rick shot their two men – and we see from the preview of next week this will be the case).
While you can point out a few things Rick did wrong, if he was in the real world anyway (such as letting the fat guy get behind him and not controlling the situation better from the start), you have to factor in the TV drama and action for the show. In reality, Rick as a police officer would have interceded and taken control from the minute the guys walked in the door. Even more so seeing they were armed. Requesting they stop at the door; and having them put down their firearms would have gave a very clear indication of their phase of mind at the start. It would have kept a greater distance between the groups and provided a better ground for reaction. I’m OK with the way it played out for the cinematic effects.
The other open-ended question is Rick’s wife. As we last saw, she crashed and a walker was on the road not more than 50 yards away. No one seems aware she left and Rick won’t be heading back in time to save her ass. It will be interesting to see how that plays out; and if the crash has any impact/barring on the baby.
Overall it thought it was a great episode. Looking forward to next week and the development between the original group and the hostile group with two dead men.

  15. I think these guys are used to shooting zombies and were completely taken off guard with the prospect of shooting living people. There's a totally different way of dealing with it, and there was probably some hope that these guys were not "bad guys". Once fatty pissed on the floor, it was obviously all going downhill from there.

And they got quite a bit of intel on other parts of the country/towns etc. before getting rid of these guys.
