Purchases!
Today has been a pretty good day. I put in a couple prep-related today, which is a rare pleasure for me. We're on a shoestring budget while I pursue a Master's degree, with little in the way of extra/discretionary income to spend on preps. Luckily, I had some extra funds from Christmas gifts and selling off a few small things, so I was able to get a few things that had been on my list for a looong while.
First off was supposed to be a One Source Tactical "Terrorist Interdiction Bag", but when I went to order one and I found them completely MIA--gone from the site. Not sure if it's been discontinued or it's just out of stock, but either way, they don't have it. I ended up going with the Hawkepaks Quick N' Dirty Essentials bag from SKD Tactical. It looks to be the same model as the "TIB", minus the zipper end pockets and the patch velcro, though I haven't been able to find a clear shot of the interior. I plan to use the "QND" as a low-profile rifle fighting bag...we'll see how it works!
The second order was a big batch of blowout kit/first aid kit supplies. One of my goals this year is to get better squared away with medical supplies, knowledge and training, and this was a big step in that direction. I'll post up details when the stuff arrives.
Later tonight, I'm going to decide between either a Cold Steel Recon 1 or a pair of ultrafine stones for my Spyderco Sharpmaker...leaning towards the Recon 1 at the moment.
Testing Products
I've also been testing some fun products. I've got a Survival Resources Emergency Water Bag, full to the brim with water, that I've been messing around with for the past two days...so far, it's pretty impressive. I've also been testing a very nice antler-handled firesteel from a craftsman named Jesse Sloan. You can visit his Etsy store here to check out his current selection...really, if you're in the market for a firesteel, this are gorgeous AND a great deal. More on both of these products tomorrow.
