Pocket Survival Kit Contest Entry #25

This one is a bit too big for final prize consideration, but I'm sure you guys will still enjoy a look!

I am an active-duty Marine and this is part of my escape and evasion (E&E) kit. The theory behind this kit is that I am fully armed (even off-duty) and am attempting to regain contact with friendly units but do not have many tools in order to do so. Initially, I used an Altoids tins but found this to be rather worrisome when the rubber bands slipped off and spilled contents in my ruck, the minty smell permeated most everything which could possibly be a scent indicator, as well as it not being waterproof. I found a small Pelican case to work nicely and retains waterproof capability through some of the roughest conditions.
Inside the Pelican 1010 Case:
(1) Button compass
(1) Bruton mini-compass
-you should have a relatively good grasp on where you are, but holding a rough bearing in terrain is sometimes difficult. The button/watch compass is actually pretty accurrate and is a quick reference. The Bruton is useful for plotting on maps as it does have flat sides.
(1) Small package of lead sinkers containing a dozen sinkers
(4) Fish hooks with barbs taped to underside of lid -prevents sticking into other items and yourself
(50) yards of 8 lb test wrapped around a grease pencil with no tip
       - even in the most inhospitable terrain, there is a high probability that fishing is viable. Another alternative, is baiting hooks with food so that birds or small rodents become ensnared.
(1) Signal Mirror
       -extremely effective at signaling aircraft
(1) Whistle
-part of unit's SOP that we carry this in the event of broken contact. Fox 40's are some of the best.
(1) Leatherman Micra multitool
-one of my favorite items due to its extremely small size
(1) CRKT folder - blade is 3 inches
-affix a rod sharpener onto handle with Gorilla glue (or the like)
(1) Wire saw
-useful for cutting small limbs which have a multitude of uses, can be used as a snare or garrote
(1) Red LED keychain light
-these run forever and can also be used for signaling, light discipline is essential
(1) Package of home-made tinder
-4 cotton balls soaked in petroleum jelly and formed into small cubes
(1) Grease pencil
-generally can write on anything in any condition; marking trails or map location
(1) Yard of duct tape around the opposite end of the grease pencil
-I do not need to list the uses of duct tape
(1) Package of water treatment tabs in ziploc, opposite waterproof matches
-Be familiar with the use of this product prior to tossing instructions
(1) Bundle of waterproof matches in ziploc, opposite water tabs
Thanks for your consideration and I hope this helps someone one day. If you feel like I am missing some items, please feel free to share.
